I start reading this and thinking "I can't believe our lawmakers write this junk" and then I realize this is tongue-in-cheek, and realize I need to go tune up my sense of humor... it was on the fritz.

Good post!

The truth is a legal fiction. The 10th Amendment, simply ink on an old piece of paper. Meaningless in today's society. One's God given consitutional right to stand their ground, on their own property, has been eroded by an increasingly activist judiciary and facist legislature.

I am constantly amazed, however, by the following truth: the greater one's intellegence level and social status, the less they can shut the fuck up. Status + intellegence = license to verbally assault. See Henry Gates for case study.

Note the reverse equation: Status - intellegence = license to run a country into the ground. See former President Bush as case study.

Drinking beer to solve problems, now that is something we learned in Tallahasse at the 4th quarter bar and grill. Having a drink and discussing socioeconomic and political issues is American as toppeling 3rd world countries with oil access. It's part of our culture.

Legislative Policy is made in bars. The taste of heavy double malts, thick smoke of illegal cuban cigars and the delightful entertainment of morally loose escorts (which may or may not arrive home alive.) This is how our legislature operates, just ask Ted Kennedy.

Good to see you are still keepin it real, old friend.

Yes, and he could have said, "While Mr. Gates is an old friend, I would withhold comment until the Cambridge Police Department is allowed their due diligence to complete any ongoing investigation into what happened and why."

He didn't have to engage. But if he did, this probably would have made it easier for him to talk about, oh, I dunno, Iran. Or healthcare. Or the economy. Now the news cycle is practically owned by this nonsense.

Maybe the White House did it on purpose to sneak in the announcement for the House vote next week on Healthcare Reform.
